Make your plan now to join us on September 11, 2021, National Day to Serve
The Fairfax County Democratic Committee (FCDC), is sponsoring a park clean up as its National Day to Serve project. Please join us at Hidden Oaks Nature Center, 7701 Royce St., Annandale VA, from 9 AM until noon. We will be cleaning up, working in an easterly direction, along the proposed Annandale Greenway, through three of its “string of pearls” parks. From Hidden Oaks, we proceed to the Manassas Gap Railway Historic Park, to the new Pop-Up Park, behind the Annandale Christian Community for Action’s (ACCA) Child Development Center, 7200 Columbia Pike, next to the fire station in central Annandale. The Fairfax County Park Authority is providing the bags, gloves, permits, and trash bag removal. Please give them a huge round of thanks!!!
As a bonus, once you arrive at the last stop, there will be a food truck, Soul Rebel, Kofi Annan’s enterprise. We have invited our local elected officials, and anticipate that Supervisors Penny Gross, James Walkinshaw, and – of course, because it is close to the Cross-Country Trail – Congressman Gerry Connolly, will join us at some point, all schedules permitting.
This September 11th is the twentieth anniversary of the day when many of us lost friends and colleagues here, in New York, or Pennsylvania. Let’s be together that day, doing good, to honor their sacrifice.
Watch for a sign-up sheet sent by FCDC the third week of August, with attachments (1) Q & A for Volunteers, and (2) a Fairfax County Volunteer Acknowledgement of COVID-19 Health and Safety Practices. The two forms will also be available at each of the three entry points of the parks, as well as the FCPA’s Volunteer Sign-in Sheet. We are limiting participation to one hundred volunteers, as FCDC values your time as much as you do. Bring water and whatever snacks you will need, and cameras!
